DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Development Services Department is responsible for current and advance planning actitivies and the implementation of the Lynwood General Plan and City's Zoning Ordinance. The department is responsible for the building permits, plan check, inspections, construction design, alteratrion, moving demolition, repair and use of any building or structure within the City. The department is responsible for implementing code requirements, responding to citizen requests for service, and protecting the public health, safety and welfare. The department is responsible for issuing business licenses, performing business inspections and monitoring, and ensuring compliance with State Law. The department is responsible to implement standards set forth in the California Vehicle Code to ensure traffic safety and compliance with code requirements.

Department Leadership

uilding and Safety Division enforces the provisions of the adopted Building and Safety Code and applicable laws and ordinances for the design construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair and use of any building or structure within the City, except work located in a public way. The Division also issues building permits and performs site inspections to insure compliance with pertinent codes, laws and ordinances.

The Accounting/Auditing Division accumulates, records, maintains, interprets and analyzes the City's financial data. The division is responsible for managing the financial operations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, auditing, grant reporting, payroll and purchasing. In addition to the above responsibilities, the division prepares monthly and annual financial reports as well as assists in preparation of the City's Annual Operating Budget.

The Business Licenses division is responsible for the issuance, clearing and updating of the business entities within the City's boundaries.

The Business License Division works in conjunction with other departments such as the Fire department, planning, building, code enforcement and the Sheriffs department to insure compliance with the City and State requirements. This division is also responsible for issuance of permits for special events such as carnivals, rummage sales, yard sales, firework stands, Christmas tree sales and the annual Christmas Parade vendor permits. Who Needs a Business License?
Any individual, corporation or sole proprietor who wishes to conduct a business within the City of Lynwood must secure a business license. City law states that no person shall engage in business or transact and carry on a business, trade, profession, calling or occupation in the City without first having procured a license from the City to do so or without complying with any and all applicable provisions of Chapter 4 of the Municipal Code of the City of Lynwood. A separate license is required for each branch or location of business.
